The Clean Pass is a program that allows eligible low-emission, energy-efficient vehicles to use the 40-mile Long Island Expressway High Occupancy Vehicle (LIE/HOV) lanes, regardless of the number of occupants in the vehicle.
This program is designed to encourage the purchase and use of vehicles that are fuel efficient and that significantly reduce vehicle exhaust emissions. This program is a joint effort by the NY STate Department of Transportation (DOT), the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the NY State Department of Motor VEhicles (DMV). In order to apply for the Clean Pass Sticker, you must have a vehicle that qualifies with a valid NY State registration.

The reliability of the HOV lanes is protected by law enforcement patrol officers from both the Suffolk and Nassau police departments, ensuring these lanes will awlays be open for use by approved vehicles with a Clean Pass sticker.
